Deltasone

Deltasone is usually used to treat multiple sclerosis, arthritis, severe allergies, skin conditions and asthma.

Before taking these drugs tell your doctor:

• if you have a history of mental problems, such as depression
• if you are scheduled for a vaccination with a live virus vaccine (eg, smallpox)
• if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
• if you have or recently had tuberculosis (TB) or tested positive for TB, measles, have a herpes infection in your eye or any other type of infection (bacterial, fungal, or viral); or chickenpox
• if you have diabetes, an underactive thyroid, liver or kidney problems or ulcerative colitis
• if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
• if you have heart problems, esophagitis, gastritis, stomach obstruction or perforation, or an ulcer
• if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement

Dose

Follow your doctor’s instructions closely. Deltasone should be taken orally and with food. 
Try not to miss your dose and do not take more than it was prescribed by your prescriber.

Interaction with other drugs

• Clarithromycin azole antifungals (eg, ketoconazole), troleandomycin or steroidal contraceptives (eg, desogestrel)
• Hydantoins (eg, phenytoin), live vaccines or mifepristone
• Barbiturates (eg, phenobarbital), rifampin carbamazepine or hydantoins (eg, phenytoin)
• Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin) or aspirin
• Methotrexate or ritodrine

Tell your doctor about all pills that you are taking

Side effects

• Increased appetite; indigestion; difficulty sleeping; increased sweating; feeling of a whirling motion; nervousness; mood changes
• Severe allergic reactions (itching; rash; tightness in the chest; difficulty breathing; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; hives;); diarrhea; black, tarry stools; general body discomfort; appetite loss; depression; dizziness; fever; ; weakness; exaggerated sense of well-being; convulsions; changes in menstrual periods; joint or muscle pain; increased pressure in the eye; mood swings; personality changes; prolonged sore throat, muscle weakness; cold, or fever; severe nausea or vomiting; swelling of feet or legs; puffing of the face; unusual weight gain; vomiting material that looks like coffee grounds; weight loss; headache.

Tell your doctor about any of mentioned above or other side effects.

Storage

Store Deltasone in the original container and keep out of the reach of children and animals.
