Propecia is used as a treatment for hair loss. Propecia is a pill that must be used by men only.
What should I tell the doctor before taking Propecia?
- liver disease
- kidney disease or infection
- an unusual or allergic reaction to finasteride, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
- prostate cancer
How to take Propecia?
Take Propecia orally. Follow your doctor’s instructions. Take this pill with or without food. You should take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take your dose more often than directed.
What drugs may interact with Propecia?
- soy isoflavones supplements
- male hormones (example: testosterone)
- some blood pressure medications
- saw palmetto
Tell your doctor about all other medicines that you take. Also tell if you use drinks with caffeine, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs.

What side effects may I notice while taking Propecia?
- sexual difficulties (less sexual desire or ability to get an erection)
- skin rash
- small amount of semen released during sex
- breast enlargement or tenderness
